Online Workouts - How to Stay Healthy While Working From Home

So far, for my series Going Remote, I’ve been sharing a lot of tech tutorials. Well, today I want to switch it up and share with you a really great way that you can stay healthy while working from home by doing online workouts.

If you’re new here, I’m posting new videos every single day for 30 days to help you work remotely, so if that is something you’d like some help with definitely hit Subscribe down below.

Online Yoga or Fitness Classes

The thing that I’m talking about is online yoga or fitness classes. All you need is a little area in your house where you can workout, and you can connect in real-time with teachers from all over the world. Online workouts are readily available right now – almost every company has moved their in-person classes online, so there are so many different classes that you can join in on.

I want to introduce you to my amazing yoga teacher, Marla. Usually, I am attending Marla’s yoga classes in person, but of course, we can’t meet up right now, so I am so happy that she has moved all of her yoga classes completely online. If you go to her website, which is marlagibsondiaz.com, you will see this link here for Online Classes. You can click on that and you will see all the different types of yoga that she has available. She is doing a donation-based fee right now, so even if you can’t afford it right now, she wants you to be able to do yoga. You can come and workout for free, and then of course, if you can afford it, then you can donate here.

If we scroll down to the bottom, you will see the upcoming schedule for that week. Let’s say that you wanted to do this class on Monday, all you have to do is click Sign Up, then type in your name, last name, and email, and click Complete Appointment and your spot is saved. From here, you will receive an email with the Zoom link for the yoga class, and the password that you need to enter. She will also email you a Spotify playlist, so that you can play music for your class.

Let’s say you’re all signed up. All you have to do is check your email and click on that Zoom link. Then this is going to open up Zoom – I’m just going to click Open Zoom – then I need to enter the meeting password. That’s going to open up and you can see what you’re going to look like on video before you come and join the meeting. If you want, you can simply click Join without Video, and you don’t have to have that on at all. I’m going to click Join without Video, and then it’s going to open up the class. Make sure that you click Join with computer audio so that you can hear Marla. At any point, you can click on the icon bottom left that says Unmute to unmute yourself, but by default you’ll be muted. Everyone will come and join the program. As I said, Marla is also going to send you a playlist, so what you can do, is you can open that up. I would just turn down the volume on this so that you can hear Marla mostly, but then you also have that music running in the background. At any point, if you want to focus in on Marla, so that you can see her better and focus on her movement, then you can simply go up here top right and click on Speaker View – and that’s going to zoom in on her.

That is how you connect to an online yoga class. Let’s tune in for a second…

I would just set this up on your computer so that you can see this. I would do Speaker View so that you can see all of her movements, and then you’re simply going to follow along at home. I ended up keeping my camera on so that way I had some level of accountability as well. Sometimes when I’m working out at home and I know it’s just me and no-one can see anything, I can slack, so I kept the camera on and this way it just gave me that level of accountability.

Doing online workouts might be a bit unusual for you at first, if you’re used to always doing in-person classes, but honestly this is a fantastic alternative. I got a great yoga class in and was able to keep moving - I highly recommend that you do the same. I hope this video was helpful and shows you just how easy it is to connect in and workout from home.

These types of classes are everywhere right now. I hope that this has eliminated the fear of what it’s like to join one of these online workouts and how you can sign up, and encourages you to go and take some classes, keep connected, and keep healthy during this time.
