If you're like me, you need a simple way to show up consistently on Instagram without feeling like you are on a constant content hamster wheel. You want to show up, be creative, and share value with your audience. This guide is for busy online business owners who need to fit content creation into their lives.

Starting Point: Imperfect Action

We're starting with taking imperfect action. Many of us have an ideal image of what perfect content should look like, which can hold us back. For now, the focus is on creating content and getting into the flow. As you grow, you can improve your storytelling and lean into more creative styles.

Step 1: Simplify Your Posting Schedule

Come up with a simple posting schedule to cut down on decision fatigue. You're probably starting each week with too many questions like what to post, how often, and on what platforms, which takes up too much time and energy. By structuring your schedule, it becomes much easier to show up consistently.

For example, here’s my content schedule:

1 feed post and 3 stories per day (Monday - Friday).

I've turned this into a Canva template which you can customize for your own business!

Step 2: Organize Your B-roll

You probably have many clips on your phone that could be used as simple reels. Start by organizing these clips into a new album titled “B-roll + the year.” You can also use still photos as backgrounds for Instagram stories or feed posts. Taking regular b-roll is a good habit to get into! Take a 10 to 15-second clip whenever you’re in a location you like.

Step 3: Utilize Your Project Management Tool

My tool of choice is Asana. I use it to manage my marketing and sales board, where I keep my content calendar easily accessible. Use the calendar view to jot down ideas for posts, and tag them with the content type to keep organized. Remember, simplifying your calendar is crucial for ease and organization.

Step 4: Repurpose Past Content

Instead of always creating new content, go through past content you've created and repurpose it. This could be past YouTube videos or blog posts. Turn these into simple B-roll reels with text overlays. This helps to get you started and eases the creation process.

Step 5: Plan and Create Content Ahead of Time

Plan to create your content ahead of time to reduce stress. Use tools like Plann to schedule and auto-post your content. This allows you to prepare everything in advance and not worry about posting daily.

Additional Tools for Easier Content Creation

  • Templating: Use templates for recurring post types like carousels (in Canva) to save time and maintain brand consistency.

  • ChatGPT: Use ChatGPT to help repurpose and edit content. It's great for pulling out lessons from existing materials and assisting in the editing process, though it's not the best for creating original content from scratch.

Conclusion

These five steps should make showing up on Instagram much simpler for you this year. If you enjoyed this video, let me know by giving it a thumbs up. Please leave any questions in the comments, and don't forget to download your weekly content calendar template. See you in the next video!
