The 4 Limiting Beliefs That Almost Stopped Me from Launching My First Online Course (And How I Overcame Them)
Heads up: I use affiliate links for my fave products. If you click and purchase, I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you.
As I gear up for another course launch, I’ve been reflecting on how far I’ve come – and just how many mindset hurdles I had to jump over when I created my very first online course eight years ago. If you’re feeling stuck or unsure about whether you can actually do this, I want you to know: I’ve been there too.
In this post, I’m walking you through the biggest limiting beliefs that almost held me back from ever launching, and exactly how I reframed each one to finally take action. If you’re just starting out with online courses – or even if you’ve launched before and are second-guessing yourself – this one’s for you.

Limiting Belief #1: “Am I expert enough?”
This was the biggest hurdle for me when I created my first course, Website That Wows. I kept asking myself, “Who am I to teach this? Why would anyone want to learn from me?”
The reframe? I realized I didn’t need to be the world’s top expert. I just needed to be a few steps ahead of my ideal student. So instead of trying to impress other professionals or compare myself to web designers, I focused on beginners – people who had never created a website before and were overwhelmed by all the tech.
By simplifying the process and making it accessible, I was able to help so many business owners get online without stress or a massive learning curve. The takeaway? Focus on who you can help right now. Those are your people.
Limiting Belief #2: “Can I charge this much?”
When it came time to price my course, I panicked. I’d seen other website courses online for $20 and thought, “How can I possibly charge more?”
Thankfully, a coach gave me a powerful reframe: those super low-ticket courses are a totally different thing. What I was building was a robust, results-driven transformation – and that deserved a higher price.
You’re not just charging for the content. You’re charging for the outcome, the hours you’ll save your students, and the confidence they’ll gain. Pricing shouldn’t be a race to the bottom. Instead, focus on value and price accordingly.
Limiting Belief #3: “What if I can’t build an audience?”
Once I committed to launching, I was hit with the next fear: “Who am I even going to sell this to?” The idea of building an audience felt huge and intimidating.
But I knew I had to go for it. I chose YouTube as my platform and started creating short, specific videos that answered real questions. They weren’t fancy, and I didn’t feel 100% comfortable on camera yet – but I did it anyway.
Over time, YouTube helped me build trust, grow my email list, and attract the exact people who needed my course. That’s still the strategy I recommend to this day: choose one platform, show up consistently, and focus on helping.
Limiting Belief #4: “I’m not good at sales.”
Even though I was confident in the value of my course, I felt super uncomfortable with the selling part. Asking people to invest in what I created? Terrifying.
Here’s what helped: I treated sales as a learnable skill. I got coaching, took courses, and learned systems that made it feel more natural. Over time, the nerves faded and confidence kicked in.
Sales isn't something you're born knowing – it’s something you practice. And just like creating content, it gets easier the more you do it.
Final Thoughts
These four limiting beliefs almost stopped me from ever becoming an online course creator. But I’m so grateful I worked through them, because launching that course completely changed my life.
If any of these fears are holding you back right now, I want you to know: you're not alone – and you absolutely can do this. Focus on who you can help today, build your audience one piece of content at a time, and don’t be afraid to invest in learning the skills you don’t feel confident in yet.
You've got this – and I’ll be cheering you on every step of the way.
