5 Instagram Content Ideas You Can Do from Home

Welcome back to my channel. Today’s video is going to be a little bit different. I thought it would be fun to try and create some great Instagram content from home. We are all at home right now, but as creatives and entrepreneurs, we still need to be putting out content and connecting with our audiences. So, what do we do when we can’t leave the house, and we can’t do a photoshoot? We have to get creative and do something from home.

The positive here is that it does challenge us to be creative. In today’s video, I have 5 different Instagram content ideas that I’m going to share with you. I’m filming this intro before I have attempted these, so hopefully it goes well!

Idea #1 – Self-timer Photoshoot

My first Instagram content idea for you is a self-timer photoshoot. I grabbed my favorite mug and then found a place in my house where I could take some photos. Then, all I needed to do was figure out how to prop up my phone, since I’d be taking the photos by myself. Once I got that sorted, it was just a matter of poses. When it comes to taking photos, I know it’s awkward. The secret is to just keep trying – keep moving around and try a bunch of different poses. Once I did that, I ended up with this photo here. Not bad – but here’s the real secret to taking great photos at home. It’s this app here called Tezza. I love it – it makes such a difference - and it’s going to make your photos look so much more professional. Simply import the photo in, double-click on your image, and you’ll see all these different filters on the bottom that you can choose from. Once you find one that you like, you can click on it and adjust the intensity of it. You can adjust the brightness, contrast, saturation – and a whole bunch of other settings as well. Edit your photo in here. Once you’ve got it looking how you like, hit Save, and then you’re going to hit Save again and that will save to your images. This is what we ended up with – not bad, I think.

My next idea for you is to find items around the house that you could use. For example, I had totally forgotten about this polaroid camera that I have. I’m going to use that as a prop. What I did was I placed my phone on the window and faced the window, because natural light is definitely the best light that you can get. I set that up there and grabbed my camera - but then realized that my background was a complete mess, so I had to go and clean. (By clean, I mean move it over to the side!)

So, back to shooting. Then I set up the self-timer on my phone. To get to that, you’re going to swipe up from the bottom on your iPhone and then you’ll see a little timer icon. Click on that, and you’ll see the option between 10 seconds and 3 seconds. At first, I started with 10, thinking I would need all that time, but then I just ended up standing around a bunch, so I would reduce this to 3 seconds.

Again, the secret is to simply keep trying different poses. It’s awkward for sure, but you’re by yourself, so who cares? Who cares if they’re terrible? I finally figured out that 3 seconds was a lot more manageable, and I got a photo I liked. Again, I brought it into Tezza, edited it a bit, and this is what I ended up with. Pretty happy with that!

For my next idea, I was thinking it would be so cute to take a photo with my favorite snacks. I have Skittles in the house right now, so this will be great! Didn’t work at all – but here’s the shot from that attempt. It may have been because I just ended up eating all of the props, but no, couldn’t have been that…

Idea #2 – Create a Flatlay

My next Instagram content idea for you is to create a flatlay. This is a pretty easy thing to do. You’ve just got to get some items in your house, and you’re going to lay them all out together. Here I have a cup of coffee, some polaroids, and my camera, and I just laid it all down and then took a photo, keeping my camera as flat as possible to the table. That came out pretty good, I think.

Idea #3 – Use A Post-It

Next, I thought, wouldn’t it be great if I could post some Instagram content that didn’t require me being in the photos? Here’s where Post-Its come in. I’ve seen this done on Instagram and I think it’s so cute. I’ve thought about doing it before anyway, so I thought I’d try it here. I just grabbed a Post-It and wrote something down on it. You could do a quote, a lesson, something that’s inspiring you right now. I chose to go with this quote by James Wedmore that I love, “What got you here won’t get you there.” I’m always reminding myself of that, as I try to get to the next level in my business. I wrote that down on a Post-It, and then I went over again to the window - because natural light is the best - and I tried to take a photo here. I got this one. Honestly, it wouldn’t be too bad I think - the main issue here is the terrible chipped-off nail polish, so we’ll fix that! Then I tried this angle as well.

Idea #4 – Create Graphics

My next Instagram content idea for you is to simply create a graphic online. You can use the tool Canva. Once you’ve created a free account, come up here to the search bar, type in Instagram and you’ll see Instagram Post - then you’ll see all these cute templates that you can use to customize for your business. I’m just going to start with blank for now, and scan through and show you some more of the templates. If you’ve watched any of my videos before, then you know that I’m obsessed with this tool. As you can see, we have all these different designs. Find one you like, simply click on that, and then you can customize it with your text. You simply double-click and then you can customize. Let’s say I wanted to change the background color - this tool is super flexible – it’s literally click and change. So, rather than doing a photo, you could simply choose to do a lesson in the digital format. You could give your best tip here and you could simply share that instead. That’s something you can create from the comfort of your laptop, and it doesn’t require a photoshoot of any kind. Definitely click the link in the description below - I have a full tutorial on how to use this program.

Idea #5 – Decorate Old Photos

My next Instagram content idea for you is to decorate old photos. In Canva, you can click on Uploads, and you can upload your own image. I’ve already done this – here’s an old photo of me – and I’m going to see if I can decorate it enough where I would post it again. My first trick for you is to click on Effects and then Background Remover, and this is automatically going to remove that entire background. Then I’m just going to crop in, so I’m going to hit Crop, and drag this in closer to my image, then hit Done. So now you can go to Elements, and this is how you can decorate it all. For example, I thought it would be cool to do a rainbow, so I just typed that in and saw all these rainbow options. I found this one here, so I just click on it, and then I can rearrange this behind me. I hit Position, Backward and move it behind. Then I can keep resizing - I’m going to drag my mouse over both of them so that they’re attached, and then I can resize in a way that I like. So, for example, I could do something like that. This one you can have a ton of fun with – there’s literally a million different options of what you could do. All you have to do is come up to the search bar – as you can see there are so many different elements. You can simply do that and decorate your old images. Let’s make it look like we have a plant coming out of the coffee – too fun! I would love to see what you come up with for this. Tag me on any of your posts that you do on Instagram - I’m @louisehenry. I would love to see those.

Really, I just feel like it’s time to be creative. Yes, we can’t go out and do everything we did before, but we have got our computers and our phones which have all sorts of amazing programs like this.

Hope you enjoyed this video. I’m done. Pretty successful overall, I think. Let me know in the comments what you thought and let me know what ideas you have for creating Instagram content at home. Seriously, this is something that I am going to attempt to do. This was a quick version for the video, but I think if I actually did my nails and put a bit more effort into this, we could come up with some really good stuff.

Thank you so much for watching. If you like this video, let me know by giving it the thumbs up. Don’t forget to hit Subscribe if you haven’t yet, and I’ll see you soon with another video.
